Travel photography Cinemagraphs

Create beautiful time-lapse animations, living photos, with Flixel Cinemagraph Pro for Mac! You are invited to join my online speaking event Thursday, August 28th at 1:00 EDT. Cinemagraphs are a combination of video and still imagery, and they’re a wonderful way to round out your photography.  I was inspired by the cloud formations over the lavender fields in the Valensole plain area of Provence, France. Being a photographer, I analyze the composition first to see what works, what doesn’t, and what can be improved. The problem was a still photo couldn’t capture the evolution of the clouds, and the clouds were very slow moving for a traditional video. A long exposure would lose the fascinating definition. The solution was to shoot a time-lapse which allowed me show the movement of clouds over time. To illustrate the clouds moving in a single image, I created a cinemagraph, a more expressive image with motion!

Many cameras have a time-lapse setting which makes it easy to get started. The Nikon D810 has an exposure smoothing feature that has works fantastic for time-lapse imagery. You can use almost any camera with a time-lapse feature or video option for creating one of a kind cinemagraphs. I’ll talk about that more during the online event, I hope you can join me, register on the Flixel Cinemagraph Pro for Mac site.
