Long exposures, multiple exposures and thinking creatively in 2015

Long exposure of dock and clouds at Lake Monroe.

Water is the driving force of all nature.
~Leonardo da Vinci

A three minute exposure illustrates the idea of motion with wind, water and clouds while photographing at one of my favorite places to decompress and relax a moment, Lake Monroe in Sanford, Florida. I was lucky to catch some nice clouds yesterday! I used the Singh-Ray Mor-Slo 10 stop neutral density filter with my Nikon D810, f/11, ISO 64.

In the second image, I used the camera’s built in multiple exposure setting, 10 exposures combined in-camera to create a sense of motion with the clouds and water. I like the three dimensional look, it’s very different from the long exposure, but equally as fun to work with! Initially, I wasn’t sure I liked all the water plants, however they ended up creating an interesting narrative that speaks about time passing, and the tide motion throughout both images.
